The Hailay and Tsehay Foundation will impart people with disabilities with the basic life skills, key skills in understanding and navigating technology as well as education and training to enhance their employment.

The Foundation will focus on people with disabilities which includes:

  • Deafness or severe hearing loss

  • Blindness or severe visual impairment

  • Permanent or likely permanent physical impairment

  • Severe mobility impairments

  • Intellectual, cognitive, sensory or neurological disabilities

  • Psychiatric or psychosocial disabilities

  • Communication or social interaction disabilities

​At the end of the training, the participants will also be provided with a certificate of appreciation. By building skills and knowledge of people with disabilities through high quality services and access to professional trainers, the Foundation will accelerate their progress towards their dream to create a meaningful impact on their own lives and that of others.

Our Pursuit

Assistive Technology Training 

The Foundation will provide people with disabilities with access to affordable adaptive and assistive technology products and services which will enable them to engage in social, cultural and economic activities. Training will be provided on a range of products that may be suitable to support those living with physical, intellectual or other disabilities.

 

The Foundation will assist people with disabilities to significantly improve their overall quality of life and also enhance their skills in accessing and navigating assistive technology in a constantly changing digital environment. These technology skills will enable them to minimise barriers in navigating the internet and improve their day-to-day connectivity with families and friends. This could bring a drastic change in the life and also provide them with the key technology skills for accessing employment opportunities.

Life Skills Training

The Foundation will also provide necessary training to empower people with disabilities to leave an independent and inclusive life. The training activities of the Foundation will focus on increasing independent living skills such as mobility, meal preparation, personal care etc.

 

The Foundation’s work with the general community will also improve the awareness of the social issues faced by people with disabilities and to build the community’s confidence in advocating for them and for engaging with and including people with disabilities in decision making. The Foundation’s work will contribute to enhancing inclusion, active participation and engagement of people with disabilities in various fields, especially in human rights matters.

In partnership with the Addis Ababa University, the Foundation will provide people with disabilities with access to justice. This will be in the form of advocacy to the government for rights of people with disabilities and providing legal advice and support to people with disabilities. The Foundation, in partnership with Addis Ababa University will establish a Disability Human Rights Department to run programs that educate people with disabilities on their rights and will expand this program to various Universities. For this purpose, the Foundation will request cooperation from the Addis Ababa University.

 

In partnership with hospitals and health institutions such as the Black Lion Hospital, the Foundation will strive to provide people with disabilities with access to health services and medical care through technological and human resources.

 

The outcomes of the work of the Institution will enhance inclusion, innovation, social Impact and pave way for rights activism that can bring about a positive change for people with disabilities.

Advocacy and Support

The Foundation will focus on personal and professional development through education and training that will make people will disabilities more employable and to be able to access employment opportunities competitively.

 

Focus will be on teaching people to navigate employment opportunities and to create their own opportunities through their private networks. The first step to achieve this could be to create an association or professional network for advocating for people with disability and to build relationships with existing organisations in the profession as a pathway to establishing a small business.

 

Many of the courses will be designed to comply with the Ethiopian Qualifications Framework. The details of each activity will be developed in due course and the type of training offerings can be expanded as the participant base increases. The activities may be run in-person at one of the offices of the Foundation but also be delivered online to ensure maximum outreach to those who may not be able to travel to the offices.

 

It Is envisaged that the practical training and courses offered by the foundation will increase participation of people with disabilities in the community and workforce. Attending seminars and structured learning from highly skilled and knowledgeable scholars in an area will inculcate the necessary professional skills that will improve the employability of people with disabilities.

Employment Training

Based on people’s interest and requirements, the Foundation will offer activities and training ranging from imparting education to supporting the artistic flair within people to cultural engagement.

 

The aim is to provide quality practical training that the people with disabilities can draw upon to express themselves and establish stronger connections within their communities.
